According to Serena Winters: Mike Scott on Ben Simmons: “I feel like he has a chip on his shoulder. He’s been shooting that ball, shooting the 3, hit a couple today. He’s still one of the fastest guys in the league, at 6’10. He’s a beast. He’s a superstar in this league & we are going to follow his lead.”

My personal opinion: I don’t consider Simmons as a superstar, at least not yet. He is definitely a star, a guy that you have to pay attention to and this season he will have to show us what he can do offensively. He was the player that was determined to not even attempt a mid-range shot or a shot behind the perimeter and with all these videos that we have seen around the Internet, we are kind of convinced that he can shoot from distance. These scrimmages don’t really mean much to me. I want to see what he can do in the regular season and of course the playoffs. I believe that his future will be bright but let’s not put labels on him, yet. He is in the beginning of his journey and he has showed us all the things that he can do on the floor besides shooting the ball from distance. He is a great passer, he has a great court-vision and that’s extremely important especially for point guard. He is featured for his inclination and his passion for the game, for those Ws that all talk about.

He is a really good defender, but don’t forget that he is so young (23 years old) and he tries to improve every day. His teammates support him and are happy with his progress. Tobias Harris was asked if he wants to share his opinion about Simmons shooting ability and he said: “And Ben hit 20 threes today.”

This season, the Sixers point guard, him alongside Joel Embiid will have to tolerate and lift all the pressure as their goal is to get out of the East and get the ticket for the Finals.

Sixers head coach Brett Brown said that they have to make small steps and not to put so much pressure on a young player who gets better day by day:

“You know, because the groundswell of this thing is bizarre. I will say, and maybe you don’t agree, but I’ll say it, we got to be careful that like this still isn’t the thing. You know, to me, he is a 23-year-old All-Star. It’s hugely important, we understand that, especially in April, May and June. And we have to set the stage.

But my center point, where I still see the world with him is I think he could be the best defensive player in the NBA. I think he’s to feature on an All-NBA Defensive Team because he can. He is going to grow as a leader and a point guard that we have talked about. And I think the other stuff is just going to just progressively evolve.”

Last season, Ben Simmons played 79 games and averaged 16.9 points, 8.8 rebounds, 7.7 assists, 1.4 steals and 0.8 blocks.
