Billy Donovan supports Dennis Schroder’s decision to leave the NBA bubble
Thunder coach Billy Donovan said his team is “100% behind” Dennis Schröder’s decision to leave the NBA bubble for the birth of his second child. According to the player, his wife is due sometime between Aug. 4 and Aug. 11. He has let the team know that he plans to leave the Disney World campus around that time to be with his wife and family.
Donovan is 100% ok with Shroder’s decision and understands the sensitivity of these beautiful family moments that no father should miss: “He’s going to do and make decisions that are best for his family. And whatever those decisions are, as a coach, I’m going to support them, and I know our team will support them.”
Players have the permission to leave the Disney World bubble only on integral situations, such as the birth of a child and when they return, they will have to quarantine for four days and go through tests for COVID-19 which will have to come out negative in order to be allowed to join the team.
“A normal season, this would’ve taken place in the offseason, so this is unique,” Donovan said. “And then you’re talking about having to be quarantined and separated from your son and from your wife, there’s a lot on these guys’ plates. And the best thing we can do for Dennis is support him when that time comes for him to make a decision.”
Dennis Schroder, who is a candidate for the award Sixth Man of the Year, before the suspension of the season, was averaging 19 points per game, 3.7 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 0.7 steals. He was shooting 46.8% from the field, 38.1% from the perimeter and 83.9% from the free-throw line.
