Is Real Madrid’s guard heading to the NBA?
Facundo Campazzo, who has been playing for Real Madrid during the last three years, seems to head out of the team. He and his agent were hoping to see some interest from the NBA and even if it didn’t occur for a long time, the time has finally come. According to the recent reports, the Minnesota Timberwolves have manifested their interest for the 29-year old guard but they have not made an official offer yet.
One month ago, Campazzo’s representative Claudio Villanueva said in an interview on UCU Radio: “In Argentina, everyone has enormous expectations of seeing Facundo in the NBA. I would also like to, but today there is absolutely nothing.”
According to his agent, everything began when some intense rumours were circulating, claiming that the Argentinian was on the brink of departing from Madrid because there was speculation that he wanted to go to the NBA and what ensued was that the team desired to look for his replacement.
Although Real Madrid had disapproved some rumours in the past that they were interested in signing Greek point guard Kostas Sloukas, this scenario has shifted.
“I am not surprised by the news from Kostas Sloukas, I have been reading them for several days, because the teams always try to find the best players. Initially, I do not associate him with Facundo, but it is an answer that Real Madrid should give,” said Villanueva.
Sloukas is Fenerbahce’s point guard and despite his efficiency and the fact that he still has a contract with the team, they are believed to try to move him due to financial issues that the organization faces right now.
According to the report: ‘’Real Madrid doesn’t have a proof regarding what he is going to do (meaning if Campazzo decides to leave the club and sign with an NBA team or not), but they prefer to have a back-up plan in case he decides to leave.’’
Finally, his former team Olympiacos is reported to have made an offer to Sloukas (a 3-year deal), but Real Madrid has also shown intense interest for the guard who probably is in a dilemma right now about what is the next step for him and his career.
