Rookie Darius Bazley had a career-high 23 points in the victory over the Wizards
Rookie Darius Bazley scored a career-high 23 points off the bench, shooting 5 of 8 from 3-point range, Danilo Gallinari scored 20 points, and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander added 18 points and the Oklahoma City Thunder handed another loss 103–121 to Washinghton Wizards, who remain winless in the bubble.
“Darius got good shots and the ball went in,” Thunder coach Billy Donovan said.
Mike Muscala, who recently returned to the squad notched up 18 points, while Chris Paul and Hamidou Diallo had each 13 points.
The Wizards, who try to vie for the eigth seed that will take them to the playoffs, have failed completely as they have lost all six games since the NBA season restarted. Coach Scott Brooks, of course, has a winning mentality but he also desires to aid players to connect and play together and it requires time to
“The name of the game is to win,” Brooks said. “We’re all in it to win. We haven’t won a game, but we’re still going to teach and we’re still going to grow and we’re still going to work on the correct habits. That’s what we’re all here to do.”
“It’s almost scarier to play a team who has nothing to lose,” Bazley said. “And on our end, we just wanted to make sure we were staying disciplined and just to keep building good habits and create an identity for ourselves.”
Jerome Robinson led Washington with 19 points, six rebounds and made 4/9 threes coming off the bench. Isaac Bonga scored 14 points and grabbed eight rebounds, Troy Brown Jr. and Moritz Wagner each had 12 points, while Riu Hachimura added 11 points and eight rebounds.
