Rudy Gobert has agreed on a new extension with the Jazz and posted a heartfelt letter, Mitchell’s reaction
Rudy Gobert and the Utah Jazz have agreed on a new extension, making him one of the highest-paid players in the NBA.
On Sunday, the Jazz handed Gobert a massive five-year, $205 million extension, which he signed and became the highest-paid center in the league. With his new deal, Gobert now has the third-largest contract in NBA history, only behind Giannis Antetokounmpo and Russell Westbrook.
Following his historic extension, Gobert penned a heartfelt letter to Utah, thanking the city for welcoming him since his rookie season.
His teammate Donovan Mitchell (with whom there was the notorious incident with the virus that staggered their relationship but after nine months the anger and the grudge seem to have been erased) recently reacted on Rudy’s extension, and their relationship: “It’s big. I’m excited for him and I told him that. … We’re fine. It’s over. It’s past us. It’s hard to believe it’s still the same year (that everything happened).”
“I think we’re in a good spot on the court. … What you saw in the bubble is just a small step, a small glimpse,” he added.
Now that both players seem to be locked in and the drama belongs to the past, it’s time to embrace their potential and the new season which will commence tomorrow.
Last season, Gobert averaged 15.1 points, along with a career-high 13.5 rebounds, and two blocks per game. Over the course of his seven-year career with the Jazz, Gobert has compiled 11.7 points, 11 rebounds, and 2.2 blocks per game.
