Serge Ibaka will meet with Raptors to confabulate about the future
Raptors president Masai Ujiri and GM Bobby Webster are on their way from Chicago to meet Serge Ibaka later this afternoon/evening. Ibaka’s contract has expired and if Raptors don’t reach on an agreement with him, then he will hit the market when free agency starts.
His current team, the Toronto Raptors, seems keen on retaining their other big-time free agent Fred Van Vleet. The rumblings even grew louder when Serge Ibaka deleted the Raptors from his social media bio.
Teams that could approach the player could be the Golden State Warriors, the Houston Rockets and the Los Angeles Clippers.
Warriors are looking for a big man at the moment after head coach Steve Kerr revealed that they are focusing on getting bigger and more athletic so they can compete against some teams which have tall and strong players who love to get physical.
His toughness and defensive value next to Draymond Green would give Warriors an update on this side.
Rockets relied on an ultra-small lineup last season and struggled a lot in the playoffs against the Lakers who had the length and depth to destroy their 3-point-style-of-game and eliminate them with a 4–1 series.
Despite all the departures and changes that have taken place during the last interval, they need to improve their upfront without compromising their fast and free-flowing offense. Rim protection is something that is missing from the puzzle
Clippers will have to cover the spot upfront after big man Montrezl Harrell signed a contract with the Los Angeles Lakers.
Ibaka came closer to Kawhi Leonard during their time in Toronto and accomplished something unique when won Raptors’ first championship.
