Marcus Smart has opened up about his real thoughts on Isaiah Thomas’ promising NBA return.

“I’m glad he didn’t give up. He’s still fighting and proving everybody wrong,” Smart said of Thomas via Celtics on NBC Sports. “I wish it was here, but it’s good to see that someone did.”

“I’m just proud he got another chance,” he concluded. “That dude is a fighter, a warrior.”

Thomas played in three games for the Pelicans last season, after he signed a 10-day contact with the team on April 3rd 2021, but it became known that the team signed him because of they had two players out with injuries (Josh Hart and Nickeil Alexander-Walker) and not because they were considering as a part of their future.

Prior to that, he had been a free agent since February 2020 after being waived by the Los Angeles Clippers following a midseason trade from the Washington Wizards.

Lakers picked him up recently and he admitted that his main goal was to return to this league and kept working on his game — and finally his efforts paid off.

“It’s been overwhelming for me. It’s been a lot,” Thomas said of his NBA return. “It’s something that I always wanted. It’s something that I worked for. Luckily, I got the opportunity. It’s amazing to be able to be on the Lakers again … I’m thankful for the opportunity, first and foremost.”

“I just prepare for these moments, honestly,” he added.

In his Lakers debut, Thomas immediately showed what LA is in for, having dropped 19 points in 22 minutes of action against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
