What moves could Warriors make to resuscitate their ‘’ dynasty’’?
The Golden State Warriors bothered us a lot during the last half a decade. Their team was considered to be the top contender for the title for consecutive years and fairly so. During this period of time, they won three championships in 2015, 2017 and 2018. In their last two, they had the luxury to have Kevin Durant, an exceptionally talented player that boosted them enough to secure their way up in the throne.
After losing Kevin Durant in free agency last year, as well as Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson with injuries, the Warriors were forced to play with a young roster and compete in a stacked Western Conference. Their record (15–50) can speak by itself in terms of what their efficiency was — and don’t misunderstand me on this one, because of course, when you rely on players that haven’t played together before, it takes time to get to know each other, build chemistry, execute Kerr’s plan etc. As it is comprehensible, it took them a lot of time to get on the same page and with additional injuries getting into their way that exacerbated the situation.
Therefore, looking back at their run all these years and where they are now, the disappointment is real but it is temporary. Regardless of what eventually happens with the rest of the season 2019–2020, the Warriors will have to look at their future where a new chapter could commence for them if they make the right moves.
- Giannis Antetokounmpo
There is a report that they will be willing to make a run for All-Star and last season’s MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo, who will become an unrestricted free agent after the end of the 2020–2021 season. After getting drafted by the Bucks back in 2013, Giannis seems to have a gradual and upward route towards the apex of the league, there where elite players are such as Lebron James, Kawhi Leonard, Stephen Curry and so on. Adding him on a roster that will include Klay Thompson, Stephen Curry, Draymond Green and Kevon Looney, that sound interesting, right?
This season, he was averaging 29.6 points and 13.7 rebounds, both career highs, over 57 games before play was halted.
2. Anthony Davis
Besides Giannis, let’s not forget that Anthony Davis will become an unrestricted free agent in 2021 (if he doesn’t decline his player option for next season and doesn’t sign an extension with the Los Angeles Lakers).
Davis has played in all 55 games and he was averaging 26.7 points, 9.4 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 1.5 steals and 2.4 blocks per GAme.
3. John Collins
Also, according to Greg Swartz of Bleacher Report, Hawks center John Collins would be a great player to land to restart the Warriors’ “dynasty on pause.” They could use their 2020 first-rounder to make this happen.
This season, Collins is averaging 21.6 points, 10.1 rebounds and 1.6 blocks and shooting 40.1 percent from deep. If they need young talent, this could be their guy.
