Suitors keep an eye on Wizards elite shooter Davis Bertans
It’s been reported that the Philadelphia 76ers will “search the trade market for perimeter shooting threats with playmaking ability”. Also, it is confirmed that Sixers are interested in Davis Bertans of the Washington Wizards, but they are not the only ones as other teams like the Atlanta Hawks, Los Angeles Lakers, Boston Celtics and Denver Nuggets will be on the line to make their offers too.
Bertans is one of the best perimeter shooters, that teams which desire to contend this postseason, should consider trading for him, but the price isn’t going to be small and the game will be who is going to give more to seal the deal.
The Wizards have been reluctant to deal him, but he will become a free agent at the end of the season and Washington might elect to get some long term assets for him.
Despite playing for the Wizards who are 12th in the Eastern Conference with 12–24 record, he’s been having a brilliant season going from playing 21.5 minutes per game last season to 30 minutes, and averaging career-highs across the board, including 15.4 points on a career-best 64 True Shooting Percentage.
He ranks 12th in the NBA in three-point attempts per game and he’s making 43.4 percent of them (even higher than the 42.9 percent he shot from deep last season). If we look at it collectively, from the total 120 players that average at least 4 three-point attempts per game, he ranks 5th and that’s very impressive.
Last season he was playing for the San Antonio Spurs and Gregg Popovich — coming off the bench to give a good boost offensively. Unfortunately, the past offseason the Spurs yielded to the possibility of signing Marcus Morris and in order to get him they had to make some space and they decided to grant Bertans to Wizards. Morris had a verbal agreement with the team, but for personal reasons, he chose to sign with the New York Knicks, something that left a bitter taste to coach Gregg Popovich.
